Michel Salzmann

Michel Salzmann is a Swiss-Portuguese painter, born in Lisbon in 1971. He obtained a certificate of maturity in visual arts at the Collège de Saussure in Geneva in 1991. His teachers were Marc Jurt, Ilie Pavel and Jean Stern. He attended studio courses under Gilbert Mazliah in Geneva. Professionally active in institutional and private finance from 1995 to 2017, and in philanthropy from 2017 to 2021, periods during which he painted sporadically. He has devoted himself entirely to painting since 2022. His work explores timeless and universal themes through figurative and semi-figurative pieces. It recurrently addresses the interaction or fusion between figures within defined environments. His practice draws equally on classical traditions and contemporary visual culture, to create paintings that question perception and invite contemplation, provoking a dialogue between intention and instinct. He frequently works with acrylic and charcoal on various supports such as canvas and paper. His studios are located in Budapest, Geneva and Sintra.
